Hello, I'm Alexandra. "Shurupchik" is my artist name, which I have been using since the first days of Internet.
I was born in St-Petersburg, Russia and lived there for more than 20 years. To continue my studies at an airline industry I moved to Germany where I got happily stuck. It's been 10 years since I call Germany home.
Photography and travel have always been an important part of my life since I was a kid. I believe my grandfather gets credit here. As a kid I used to help him develop photos behind the dark bahtroom door for occasion transformed into a photo studio. I remember those fascinating moments when the piece of paper started showing signs of life.
A passionate traveler himself, my grandfather would take me on road trips, where we would explore historical Russian villages and take photos with his rusty Fujica camera. He also gave me my first camera - LOMO.
Growing up in post-Soviet Russia wasn't easy in terms of traveling - visas are still no fun to obtain. But in 2002, at the age of 17 I went on my first unsupervised journey and camped through the USA national parks from California all the way up to Idaho. 15 years later I still find traveling exciting and educational and cannot imagine sitting still.
At some point I started sharing my travel photography on the Internet - first on Flickr, than on Instagram.
In 2016 "Shurupchik Travels" came to life. This travel blog is a place where I share my honest opinions and stories together with travel tips and photography with a goal to inspire your wanderlust.
Being a mom I also try to spice up my blog with parents advices and travel stories for the road.
I hope you will find the information here useful and motivating enough to go on a journey yourself.
