St-Petersburg changes very fast. New places open. Old places close. The ones popular in summer might not survive until winter. The city is overloaded with cafes, restaurants, fast food stalls and coffee to-go tents. Sadly the plenty doesn't guarantee the quality. If the time of your visit is limited how to decide which one to choose?
I try to visit my hometown on a half year basis and first week I usually spend checking out new places and re-visiting good old ones. So let me tell you about my favorites from this winter. Summer suggestions you will find here (in russian only).
One of the best places to enjoy this winter. A great restaurant with a thoughtful and stylish design. The name says it all - all the interior design is made out of birch. Menu offers tasty choices of spicy quinoa and seafood noodles. Homemade warm corn bread with fresh butter or olive oil is perfect on a cold frosty day. They have two rooms - one is public and the other one reserved for special occasions. One is quite, in another one you will see your food being prepared infront of you. It's a bit pricey but is worth the visit and money.
Located in a newly built hotel this is a great place for breakfast or brunch. Tasty deserts and good coffee. Good tea selection and cozy interior in simple scandinavic style. They also serve lunch.
Another new favorite in Petrogradskiy district. Cozy, stylish, with good reads on display and tasty coffee, granola and fresh grapefruit juice. This place is perfect for staying longer, reading and having long conversations.
As the name says this place is all about coffee. And it is indeed good. As in many places in Russia you will find here not only coffee, bt all sorts of food in a cozy atmosphere. For those in search for hipster scene in St-Petersburg this is a great place to check.
A pleasant discovery for those of you who are into beer. A lot of choices of craft beer on tap and in bottles.
